Foreign Office, December 10, 1908. WITH reference to your letter of the 16th October last, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you, to be laid before the Secretary of State for the Colonies, a copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Minister at Peking,* inclosing correspondence as to the sovereignty over the Atoll of Pratas.

1 am to state, for the information of the Earl of Crewe, that there would appear to Sir E. Grey to be no question of the annexation of the atoll by this country, in view of the undoubted claims of China to its sovereignty.
